washing feet

Former Karnataka Minister A Manju today washed feet of a Sanitary Worker Couple Chandru and Ashwini, before filing his nomination papers as the BJP candidate for key Hassan Lok Sabha Seat in Karnataka.

During Prayagraj Kumbahamela, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had washed feet of five Sanitary workers before having bath and Mr Manju took the cue from his leader.

Manju, a strongman in the Congress party in Karnataka till recently, returned to his parent party BJP and got ticket to contest in Lok Sabha seat from Hassan.

The bitter critic of H D Devegowda family had left the party in a huff after Congress under pre-poll alliance with JD(S) had left Hassan seat to JD(S) and Mr Gowda, National President of the party had alotted the seat to his grandson Prajwal Revenna.

Originally a BJP leader, Mr Manju was elected from Arakalagudu constituency in Hassan district on BJP ticket to the Legislative Assembly in 1999 but later joined Congress.

With Mr Manju rejoining BJP and given the LS ticket, JD(S) faces a tough task in its bastion where Mr H D Devegowda was elected to Lok Sabha for five times including in 2014.
