Central range inspector general of police Soumendra Priyadarshi will monitor the inquiry into the murder of BJP leader Manguli Jena from Khurda by unidentified criminals last night.
Odisha DGP in-charge B.K. Sharma said Priyadarshi will supervise the probe. A team of the crime branch led by an inspector reached Khurda on Monday to assist police in the inquiry.
Priyadarshi said four police teams have been formed to probe the incident and assured that the criminals will be nabbed soon.
He said a decision has been taken to provide security to the BJP candidate in Khurda. Each candidate will be provided with two police personnel for security.
Police would also provide security to other party candidates, if they desired.
As per the reports two two-wheeler borne criminals fired three rounds at Jena, BJP’s Khurda mandal president, near party’s Nabina Bag office in Khurda town killing him on the spot while he along with BJP candidate for Khurda assembly seat K.C. Khandayatray were discussing some party issues.
BJP observed Khordha bandh from 8 am to 2 pm in protest and held protest demonstration before the Khurda police station demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the murder. (UNI)
