CME on prevalence of fatty liver disease in children held

Bhubaneswar: The prevalence, burden and management of fatty liver disease in children was the subject of a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program held at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital here on Wednesday.

Children who were overweight or suffered from hypertension or displayed metabolic syndrome needed to be screened for Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), Prof. Niranjan Mohanty, eminent pediatrician, said. It had become a high risk public concern today, he said. Prof.

Nimai Charan Mohanty, renowned pediatrician from MGM Institute of Health Sciences, Mumbai, spoke about the variegated manifestation of hepatitis in children and how to reduce the infectivity in the community.

Dr. Vyvav Venkatesh, Pediatric Gastroenterologist at IMS and SUM Hospital, highlighted the manifestation of pancreatic diseases in children while providing an overview on fluid collection.

Around 75 participants including members of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), senior faculty members of the department and students were present.
