Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed state assembly on Tuesday that depletion of ground water table was noticed due to mining activities in the state.
In a written reply in response to a starred question tabled by MLA Wilfred D’sa, Dr Sawant, who also holds Mines and Geology Portfolio, said,” In general, depletion of ground water table was noticed due to mining activities carried.”
However, he said that no study had been taken up regarding studying the effect of ground water due to mining activities.
He said The 88 mining leases were renewed in reference to the judgement and order passed by High Court of Bombay at Goa, in a Writ Petition of 2014. However, the 2nd renewal order of 88 mining leases was set aside and quashed by Supreme Court February 7, 2018.
