Fourth phase of LS polls to decide fate of union ministers, sitting MPs, film star

The fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections on Monday will decide the fate of a host of prominent leaders including Union ministers, sitting MPs, and a film star.

Bihar’s Begusarai is witnessing a strong triangular contest between former JNU student leader and CPI candidate Kanhaiya Kumar, BJP’s fireband leader and Union minister Giriraj Singh, and RJD veteran Tanveer Hasan.

While, chief minister Kamal Nath’s son and late Congress leader Arjun Singh’s son are contesting in Madhya Pradesh, actress and Congress candidate Urmila Matondkar is contesting from Maharashtra.

Late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan’s daughter Poonam Mahajan and late Sunil Dutt’s daughter Priya Dutt are contesting from Maharashtra.

Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav is contesting from Uttar Pradesh, BJP’s Sakhi Maharaj also in the poll fray from the Hindi heartland.

In the fourth phase, Union minister Babul Supriyo of BJP is contesting from West Bengal and Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot’s son Vaibhav Gehlot is contesting against BJP’s strongman and Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Baijayant Panda is contesting on a BJP ticket from Odisha’s Kendrapara constituency.

In 2014, the BJP had won 45 of the 72 seats, where polling will be held on Monday. According to Election Commission, over 12.79 crore voters to decide fate of 961 candidates in the fourth phase. (UNI)
