Expressing anguish over his defeat in the Lok Sabha election from Tumakuru, former Prime Minister and JDS National President H D Devegowda today hinted at possibility of a mid-term poll to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
Speaking to newsmen after participating at a Yoga programme at his residence here on Friday, he opined that there is a growing apprehension among the ruling partner Congress that if they go along with the JDS their base may get weekend in Karnataka.
Maintaining that he did not gone to the door of the Congress to form the coalition government, he disclosed that “I had suggested the Congress leaders in favour of Mallikarjuna Kharge to head the Coalition government, but they had insisted on his son H D Kumaraswamy”.
Stating that he is not aware whether Congress leaders wish to continue coalition or not, he said that “as for as the JD(S) is concerned we had gone extra mile to save the alliance government”.
Underlining that one should not blame the JD(S) for the debacle in the Lok Sabha election, he said that “I had never demanded Tumakuru Lok Sabha seat from the Congress, however it was forced on me by refusing to concede the Mysore Lok Sabha seat”.
“If the Congress leaders believe that we are responsible for their poor show in the Lok Sabha election, let them say it openly” Mr Gowda demanded.
However, Chief Minister, H D Kumaraswamy who has resumed his‘Village Stay’ programme and camping in Yadagir district, ruled out any possibilities of a mid-term election in Karnataka.
Reacting to Devegowda’s statement on the issue, he said that “The government is stable and there is no threat to it”.
“I will complete the full five year term. He opined that the media had misinterpreted the statement of Devegowda on mid-term election.
