Raipur, Apr 9 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Bhima Mandavi and four personnel of Chhattisgarh Police were killed on Tuesday in an ambush on their convoy by Maoists in Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh. The ambush occurred between Kuakonta and Shyamgiri in Dantewada.
According to the Central Reserve Police Force, the Maoists blew up the escort vehicle in which the lawmaker and four security personnel were travelling. Five state police jawans were also gravely wounded in the ambush. Additional reinforcements were rushed to the spot, state police officials said.
Dantewada falls under the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency slated to go to the polls in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 11, Thursday.
It may be recalled that on May 25, six years ago, Maoists had attacked a convoy of Indian National Congress leaders in the Darbha Valley in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh which caused at least 27 deaths, including that of former state minister Mahendra Karma and state Congress chief Nand Kumar Patel. On June 11, 2013, senior Congress statesman, Vidya Charan Shukla, had succumbed to his injuries .
