Mr Radha Krishna Mathur was on Thursday sworn in as the first Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Ladakh, which came into existence after the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, when the Centre scrapped Article 370. Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Geeta Mittal administered the oath of office to Mr Mathur at a function held here at 0730 hrs. A large number of civil, Army and police officers besides politicians attended the function.
Justice Mittal later flew back to Srinagar where she will administer the oath of office to Girish Chandra Murmu as the first Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
However, in Kargil district of Ladakh, people are observing a black day today to protest against alleged discrimination with the border district. Kargil has been observing a general strike on a call by joint action committee for the past three days, demanding equal rights. (UNI)
