Muslim Conference president Abdul Ghani Butt was placed under house arrest in the summer capital, Srinagar.
“A large number of state police personnel were deployed outside party headquarters in Wazir-Bagh Srinagar and Prof Bhutt was told that he has been placed under house arrest late last night,” a spokesperson for Muslim Conference said.
Prof Bhutt, who is former chairman of Hurriyat Conference, was among 18 separatists, whose security was withdrawn by the state government in view of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) fidayeen attack in Pulwama on February 14 that left 40 CRPF jawans dead.
The spokesman strongly condemned the crackdown against separatists and other religious leaders. (UNI)
