“Gopalpur Port will be a strategic shift in cargo movement on the east coast of India, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said.
Dedicating the port which was badly damaged in two successvice cyclonic storm-Phailin and Hudhud, to the nation today, .Patnaik said development of this port will provide significant economic benefits to the region, particularly Ganjam District.
The port was renovated with cargo handling capacity of 20 MTPA with an investment of over Rs 2,000 crore.
The Chief Minister said “Gopalpur port will play a crucial role in economic development of Odisha, especially the southern districts of the state providing employment opportunity for 8,000 youths.
The Shapoorji Pallonji Group which holds majority shareholder in Gopalpur Ports undertook the expansion and renovation of the port spending over Rs.2000 crore.
Among others Odisha Minister for Commerce and Transport. Nrusingha CharanSahu, Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigraphi and Chattrapur MLA PriyanshuPradhan were present at the function.
Shapoorji Pallonji Port’s Managing Director Amit Saboo said“Gopalpur Port is expanding its capacity to 20 MTPA with all-weather operations in this phase with an overall vision of having 55 MTPA capacity by 2025.
Shapoorji Pallonji Groups’ Port business will now operate on both sides of the Indian coast providing strategic logistical advantages to its customers” , he said.
