Janata Dal (United), a key NDA ally, opposed the resolution seeking abrogation of Article 370 in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. JD (U) leader Ram Nath Thakur while participating in the debate stated that Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and the party opposes the resolution which takes away special status conferred on Jammu and Kashmir.
“We oppose Modi government’s move to revoke Article 370, 35A in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. However, BSP, AIADMK, BJD, Shiv Sena supported the resolution moved by Home Minister Amit Shah earlier in the day.
BJD’s Prasanna Acharya supporting the Bill stated that though theirs was a regional party, but the nation comes first.
Similarly, nominated member Swapan Dasgupta hailed the government’s move and termed it as a ‘proud and momentous day’ for the country.
Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena said those who have exploited Jammu and Kashmir for 70 years are the ones who are opposing it.
