NIA gets custody of accused in connection with 532 kg heroine at Attari

The National Investigation Agency on Friday got eight day custody of accused Tariq Ahmad Lone in connection with seizure of 532 kg of heroine at integrated check-post at Attari on June 29. 

The probe agency produced Tariq Amhed before the Special NIA Court, Mohali, Punjab and was remanded to NIA custody.

The case has been registered under section- 120B, 121A, 122 of IPC, sec. 17, 18, 18-B & 20 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Sections 8, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 29 and 32 (B)(e) of NDPS Act., in connection with seizure of 532 kg of heroin and 52 kg of mixed narcotics on June at Integrated Check Post (ICP) Attari and interception of two persons namely Gurpinder Singh, an Amritsar based trader and Tariq Ahmed Lone, a drug trafficker from Handwara, J&K.

“The involvement of an international drug racket based in Pakistan as well as in Afghanistan has come to light”, the NIA said.

​”This is a case of narco-terrorism having national and international implications involving different terror groups wherein Narco consignments are allegedly being smuggled from across the international border for funding”, the probe agency said. 

The case is being investigated to unearth international narco-terror linkages in order to pre-empt various terror modules operating to spread terror in the Indian hinterland, the NIA said.
