Thanking voters in Raebareli for reprising their faith in her, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Sunday said she was ready to sacrifice everything to safeguard basic values of the country.
In a letter addressed to the people of her traditional Parliamentary constituency of Raebareli, Mrs Gandhi also thanked the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party, which did not field any candidate against her.
”I am grateful from my heart that like every Lok Sabha election, this time also you have reposed your faith in me. I am thankful to each and every Congress worker, and friends from the SP, BSP and Swabhiman Dal for the hardwork put in for my win,” Mrs Gandhi said.
Describing people of Raebareli as her family, she said,”my life is an open book in front of you all. You are my family. I derive strength and encouragement from you and this is my real treasure. I have always tried to take care of my extended family in every way. In future too it will be my endeavour that I am not lacking in my efforts.”
Admitting that the coming days were going to be very tough, Mrs Gandhi said but I am fully confident that with the support and trust of the people of Raebareli, the Congress will meet every challenge.
“I know that the coming days are going to be very tough. However, I am fully confident that with the power of your support and trust, the Congress will meet every challenge.
No matter how long the struggle is, I promise you that to safeguard the basic values of the country and to uphold the tradition of the ancestors of the Congress, I will not step back from sacrificing whatever I have got,” Mrs Gandhi said.
Mrs Gandhi had won the Raebareli Lok Sabha seat by defeating BJP candidate Dinesh Pratap Singh by 1,67,178 votes.
While Dinesh Pratap Singh managed 3,67,740 votes, Sonia Gandhi won the seat again with 5,34,918 votes.
