Udhampur Police nabs two drug peddlers with around 13-kg cannabis

Jammu, Jan 9 (UNI) Police on Wednesday nabbed two drug peddlers with around 13-kg of cannabis on Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Police this morning recovered 12.9 kg of charas from narcotic smugglers at Jakhani,” Rajiv Pandey, SSP Udhampur here said.
He said that a police party of PS Udhampur led by Zahid Saif Wani, DySP Hqrs Udhampur assisted by Inspector Sanjeev Singh Chib, SHO PS Udhampur, Inspr. Paramjeet Singh SHO PS Rehmbal and SI Vishavpartap Singh laid a naka at Jakhani, NHW for checking of vehicles.
“During naka checking, police party intercepted one car (MH 02AY- 8677) and during the checking of the vehicle, 12kg 965 grams of charas was recovered.
The narcotic smugglers were identified as Gohar Khanday of Mastpur Killar, Shopian alongwith Abdul Qayoom Khanday of Gulab Tang Killar, Shopian.
They both were arrested on the spot and recovered charas was also seized while a case under NDPS Act was registered and investigation started.
The SSP said that Udhampur police is determined to eradicate the menace of narcotics smuggling from district Udhampur and is working on finding out the backward and forward links of these smugglers.
“Whosoever found involved in the menace of narcotic smuggling would be dealt with strictly under law including imposition of PSA on habitual narcotic offenders,” he added.
