Naveen Niwas receives anonymous letter of threat to CM’s life

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Police has swung into action as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik received an anonymous letter at Naveen Niwas, his official residence, stating about a conspiracy to eliminate him.

The handwritten letter in English said that “some contract killers were hired to kill the CM Patnaik”.

“I would like to inform you that some contact killers are (illegible) to kill you. These contact killers are professional criminals. These contact killers are equipped with latest weapons like AK-47, semi-automatic pistol. These criminals may attack you anytime… I would like to tell you that you can be killed anytime, so please be aware”, the anonymous letter was quoted in reports appearing in the media.

The letter further claimed that “the mastermind lives in Nagpur”.

“The weapons which will be used to kill you have been brought to Odisha,” read the letter.

As soon as the letter was received, the State Home Department alerted Odisha Police.

The Government has asked the Director General of Police and the capital city’s Police Commissioner to ensure every measure required for the safety of the Chief Minister.

The Home Department has already reviewed the security arrangements of the Chief Minister at his office, official residence and the route that he takes during his journey to the office.

A high-level inquiry team has swung into action to verify the authenticity of the letter, it was learnt.

The Government has taken the letter too seriously and the Chief Minister\s security has been tightened, sources informed.
