BHUBANESWAR: Following Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s persistent demand, the  Centre has sent 2.5 lakh doses of Covishield vaccine to Odisha on Saturday.

The state was facing shortage of supply of the required does of vaccine that forced closure of a large number of vaccination centers across the state.

While the state government dashed letters to the Centre seeking more supply of the vaccine doses, the Chief Minister took up the matter with the Prime Minister during the PM’s interaction with the state Chief Minister’s on Covid management.

The new lot of doses was received just before the celebration of Tika Utsav on Sunday.

The newly received vaccines are being sent to the districts on Sunday and the district administrations have been directed to resume vaccination drive on Monday.

Odisha has already vaccinated above 40 lakh people while it has asked the Centre to release 25 lakh doses more.
