Odisha to offer mobile phones to all its anganwadi workers

BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to strengthen its communication network, the State Government has decided to provide mobile phones to all the anganwadi workers soon.

Women and Child Development Minister Tukuni Sahu announced this on Sunday.

The mobile network will help a lot in timely dissemination of information that is extremely crucial for reaching out to the needy, she said.

Provision of mobile phones for all the anganwadi workers of the State is one of the several timely initiatives of the State Government, she pointed out.

The Government has also decided that each anganwadi centre will have a weighing machine to check the weight of children.

Moreover, the Department of women and Child Development has also formulated and released a communication package on the occasion of the National Girl Child Day, she informed.

The package aims at addressing various forms of discrimination and violence against women, the Minister added.

The communication package has been developed in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund, she said.

A set of animated videos and posters have been developed with Tiki Mausi as the mascot of the Department as the protagonist.

The thrust of the package has been on major issues like gender discrimination, child marriage, dowry, domestic violence and sexual harassment at the workplace.
