Centre suspends biometric attendance for government employees

New Delhi: Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr Jitendra Singh has announced the suspension of the Biometric Attendance for government employees with immediate effect due to rise in Covid cases. In a tweet, Dr. Singh said, the decision has been taken in the interest of safety and health of the employees.

DoPT said that biometric attendance will remain suspended till 31st January. Heads of Departments have been asked to ensure that employees wear masks at all times and follow COVID-appropriate behaviour.

Physical attendance of Government servants below the level of Under Secretary has been restricted to 50 percent of the actual strength. 50 percent of the staff will work from home. Persons with disabilities and pregnant women employees have been exempted from attending the office but they will work from home.

DoPT has further ordered to follow staggered timing to avoid timings to avoid overcrowding. DoPT said, all officers and staff residing in the containment zone will be exempted from coming to offices till the containment zone is denotified.
