After a prolonged agitation by the High Court lawyers protesting the physical assault on a lawyer the strike has been called off after the three police personnel tendered an unconditional apology in the High Court today. This was informed by the secretary of the Bar Association Srikant Nayak. From Thursday the lawyers will resume work.

Meanwhile, the Bar Association has decided in a meeting that to ward off any such unpleasant  incident or development in the future a body shall be formed which shall lay down the modalities as how to tackle with such situation .

Not a very good news for the leaders or political parties in India if someone streamlines their poll related financial activities. Online search major Google did it in US mid-term polls effecting a tight control on who is spending on political ads and at the same time guidelines requiring all ads to include disclosure identifying who paid for the ads. Google plans replication of it for 2019 poll in India. Weekly transparency report that listed political advertisement expenditure on the basis of ads agencies , the party affiliation was what was launched during the US mid-term poll.

Netaji kin Chandra Kumar Bose, now a BJP leader in West Bengal has given a proposal through a letter to the prime minister that the name of Nicobar Island be renamed as ‘Saheed & Swaraj’ islands as a mark of tribute to Netaji who was the ‘first minister of India when he had hoisted the national flag at Port Blair on December 30 1943’ Bose said in his letter.

The  group CEO of e-commerce giant, Flipkart, Binny Bansal was to resign after being charged with ‘personal misconduct’ following an investigation report . News agency Reuters reported that Bansal’s decision to resign was a sequel to an independent investigation done on behalf of Flipkart and Walmart after an allegation of ” serious personal misconduct ” reported the agency although Bansal has denied the allegation.

The creator of popular comic Spider-man and Iron Man Stan Lee, 95, died on Monday. Lee was also a co-creator of Marvel Comics, was born in Manhattan , was earlier known as Stanley Martin, was also co-creating many other comic characters like Iron Man, Thor and Doctor Strange, had once went for an appearance in a films including The Avenger.

It has been decided by the Puri temple administration that the rate chart on Mahaprasad sale shall be introduced after the month of Kartika. This was clarified by the the chief administrator of  Lord Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Pradeepta Mohapatra on Tuesday. He said that the rate chart for Mahaprasad will be given a final shape after the holy month of Kartika.

The popular Odia singer of yester-years Chitta Jena is no more. Jena has died yesterday in a private hospital after a prolonged illness. A melodious voice has been silenced for all the times to come. Born in 1941, Jena reigned at the horizon of popularity with his unforgettable numbers like ‘ki sundara aaha ki ananda maya or ‘Mo priya tharu kiye’ few evergreen songs keep resounding taking the listeners on the wings of melody.

Jena who gave his first rendition in 1974 in the film ‘Maha Akasha’ quickly shot into fame with the prestigious award ‘ Prafulla Kumar Samman’.

An intense probe has uncovered the real secret behind the killing of the Royal Bengal Tiger (RBT) in the Debrigarh sanctuary last month. This hair-raising and dirty scheme had ten people behind it who made the entire scheme, trapped the tiger, killed it and then chopped off his paws, teeth and whiskers before they buried the carcass in the forest. All the plans were executed right under the nose of the Forest department and the police but the latter could not get any smell of it.

Probing into the case the Crime Branch has so far arrested three persons and further details may come out in the days to come. The CB is taking the arrested people in remand and which may further reveal the involvement of others, including that of people from the Forest department also.

It may come as a set-back to about one crore LPG consumers across the country if they lose their connection from Bharatgas,Indane or HP in case they have done their KYC (know your customer) by the 11th of December. Reports say that the central government has instructed all the above agencies to complete the KYC by the end of November. This would apply to consumers who enjoy no subsidy also.

A report in a Hindi daily Hindustan the government has asked the agencies to do the KYC of consumers who have not submitted their Adhaar or opted for the ‘ Give it up’ scheme.

Ajmal Amir Kasab, the short and stout looking man who nearly pulverized the nerves of Mumbai through hours long mayhem that killed many underwent a throwback to his teens when he had confessed to a police officer that ‘ aap jit gaye ..aur mein har gaya ‘(you won, I lost) . This was according to a report in the Hindustan Times quoting the then main investigating officer Ramesh Mahale who reportedly had seen the last glimpse of hope fading into fear on the face that deadly terrorist who was held guilty of 80 offences . Kasab was not an easy case to be handled and Mahale had to adopt soft tactics to tame Kasab who was ‘spinning ‘ stories, says the report. He had strong hunch that he would get a “leeway’ as death sentence in India is usually” abhorred”.

At one point Kasab confessed to his crime and was sent to the gallows. On November 13 he was hung.

Bollywood actor Rakhi Sawant, who recently took on the Me Too fame Tanushree Dutta and got away , but she paid a price dearly when she challenged a woman wrestler in Haryana’s Panchkula and was sent to hospital after getting knocked out. After the bout Rakhi had serious pain in her stomach and limbs was soon rushed to the hospital and now stated to be stable after treatment.

Taking part in a television debate the BJP national spokesman Dr. Sambit Patra, jokingly or otherwise, threatened the AIMIM spokesman Syed Asim Waqar that agar Allah se pyar karte ho to baith jao warna… kisi masjid ka nam bhagwan Vishnu ke naam par rakh dunga’. This was while there was a debate on the changing of names of cities etc. in India and when Waqar specifically questioned why the name of Ekana International Stadium is being changed. Patra had even said that the Hindus in India are being oppressed by Muslims.

Absconding for some tine the former minister of Bihar, Manju Verma still untraceable who was alleged to have found in a nexus of illegal arms possession in the family .The supreme court on Monday slammed the Bihar police for the lapse so far. She is sought in a case of recovery of ammunition from her home during a raid some time back. An FIR was registered against the former minister and her husband as an accomplice in the crime under the Arms Act , 1959 when 50 cartridges were recovered from her in-laws in Begusarai.

Former Supreme Court judge and CJ of Orissa High court , justice SN Phukan passed away on Sunday. He was 81 years old.

Justice Phukan joined the Gauhati High Court Bar after his enrolment. In 1963, he was appointed to the Assam Judicial Services.  In 1976, he became the Law Secretary of Assam.

Following his appointment as a permanent judge of the Gauhati High Court, he also served as its Acting Chief Justice. In September 1994, he was transferred to the High Court of Himachal Pradesh, in which court he served as Chief Justice from March 1995. In August 1996, he was transferred once more to the Orissa High Court, where he also served as Chief Justice.

Thereafter, he was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court in January 1999. He retired in 2002.
