The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Union of India and Jammu and Kashmir Government as to how long do they intend to keep the restrictions fastened in the Valley.
The poser came from a three-judge bench, headed by Justice N V Ramana, which was hearing the submissions from UoI and other respective petitioners in the article 370 and restrictions imposed in J&K matter.
Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta, senior counsel appearing for the UOI, told the bench, also comprising of Justices R Sudarshan Reddy and B R Gavai that the apex court’s observations have trans-border implications.
SG Mehta told the bench that opening up Internet is directly linked to spurt in terrorist cases in the Valley. He said 90% of the areas in J&K are free from restrictions for movement of people.
Anuradha Bhasin, one of the petitioners in the case, opposed the arguments of Mehta, and said,’ No this is incorrect. Still there are restrictions there.’ November 5 was set as the next date of hearing in the case.
The Supreme Court also made it clear that those petitions filed between 2012 to 2018, would be heard on 14th November. (UNI)
