Mamata Banerjee govt effects major reshuffle in top police level after LS poll debacle

Mamata Banerjee led West Bengal government on Sunday effected a major reshuffle in top police level, first after setback in the recently concluded Lok Sabha poll, reinstating some officers, including Kolkata Police Commissioner Anuj Sharma, who was removed by the Election Commissioner during poll.

City police commissioner in the rank of ADG Rajesh Kumar, who was assigned to be the city police chief by the ECI, has been transferred but his post was not given immediately.

Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar, Natarajan Ramesh Babu was also transferred but his posting was awaited and in his place Gyanwant Singh was recalled from the post of director, directorate of economic offences with immediate effect.

DIG Mednapore range Devendra Prakash Singh has been transferred to CP, Barrackpore Police and Sunil Kumar Chowdhury now posted at Barrackpore Police commissionerate has been transferred.

He was also in the list of “waiting for posting order”, according to a notification of the day.

Commander SAP 13th battalion Shyam Singh has been transferred to Birbhum SP, and Amar Kumar Singh, SP Cooch Behar, also been transferred and his posting was not given so far.

Birbhum SP Avvaru Ravindranath has been posted to DC Zone II ( Alipur Division ) Bidhannagar. Police commissionerate and CO SRIB Abshishek Gupta has been given charge of SP Cooch Behar.
