BHUBANESWAR: The decision of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to ensure direct flight between Bhubaneswar and Pune has brought cheers for countless air commuters.
The Chief Minister has announced that his Government would provide financial support to Air Asia for three months to establish direct air connectivity between the two cities.
“The State Government will provide financial assistance for the initial three months in a bid to facilitate special flight operation by Air Asia for the Bhubaneswar-Pune air route so that the people reap the benefit,” the Chief minister tweeted.
Though a large number of people from Odisha are based in Pune, they were facing much difficulty in availing direct flight services. They were forced to fly via Hyderabad and Mumbai.
“This flight service will prove to be significant for augmenting both tourism and economic prospects of Odisha,” the Chief Minister added.
Western Odisha gets air connectivity to Mumbai and Bengaluru
In a related development on Tuesday, Veer Surendra Sai Airport at Jharsuguda got connected to Mumbai and Bengaluru by Spice Jet.
The development has caused much relief among the people of western Odisha who were forced to fly via Bhubaneswar so far causing wastage of much time and money.
“It is pleasure moment for all of us as our efforts to connect Jharsuguda to Mumbai and Bengaluru yielded fruit today.
Almost all metro cities except Chenai have been covered. Our efforts will be on to connect more cities to the Western Odisha town,” airport director Kishore Kumar Senapati stated.
