Politics in Odisha must feel the void after the sad demise of known socialist leader and former Rajya Sabha, MP Baishnav Parida (77) today. Parida was more known for his role in promoting the Odia language and till the end he had not quit from his mission which he had kept ahead of his political preference. From his young days Parida was inspired by Left liberal ideals.
Parida was one of the few leaders in Odisha who waged a relentless movement to make Odia as the official language in the State. However, even after he joined the BJD and was sent to Rajya sabha as an MP, his love for Odia remained at the centre-stage of his political drive.
